Meeker County Historical Soceity Museum & G.A.R Hall Website »
The Litchfield, Minnesota, G.A.R. Hall was built in 1885, and immediately plans were made for it to be a museum. The Meeker County Museum was added 50 years ago and has a wide variety of items from the settling of the Prairie in Minnesota.
The G.A.R. Hall features a large number of items that were provided by the original G.A.R. members. Also available is an excellent display of Dakota Native American items, plus information on the Dakota War of 1862. The upper floor of the museum features items from a general store, pharmacy, doctors and dentists offices, and the various conflicts the U.S. has been involved in.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
