The Maidu Interpretive Center offers a nature trail that takes you past ancient petroglyphs and hundreds of bedrock mortars evidence of Nisenan Maidu occupation of the site for thousands of years. Inside the museum you'll find exhibits portraying the Maidu way of life.
The Maidu Interpretive Center's newest photographic exhibit is on ancient rock art. Photographs were taken of both Northern and Southern Califorinia sites. Another temporary exhibit is: Discovery, Devastation, and Survival. This exhibit covers the devastating impact of the gold rush on the native population.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
