A ciruclar building noted for its architecture built in the days of the New Deal public works program. It houses frescoes at the main entrance, a topographical map of Louisiana in the lobby, dioramas which circle the rotunda and wonderful Native American artifacts in center cases throughout. There are also traveling exhibits scheduled during the year.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
