Exhibits

July 3 - mid-October Legacy Museum hosts a South Arts traveling exhibit, "Rhythm and Roots: Southern Music Traditions" in the Charter Foundation Rotating Gallery. This exhibit features the music and voices of the South, utilizing text panels and an audio component. The exhibit provides context for music traditions and their relationship to community.

The exhibit looks at deeply rooted Southern music forms - Appalachian, Blues, Bluegrass, Cajun, Country and Gospel - and how it is also now home to numerous transplanted music traditions. The New South is infused with new sounds from around the world - music from Asia, the Caribbean, Latino to name a few - with both distinctive and blended sounds that flourish in new environments. The museum is free and open to the public.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
