Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning’s (JCAL) Visual Arts program fosters the development of work by the underrepresented artists of the New York metropolitan area—particularly artists of color, women, and emerging artists—providing artists with career resources and support while bringing contemporary visual art to an underserved constituency. In addition to presenting up to four exhibitions each year in our 1,650 square foot gallery, JCAL also commission emerging artists to create public works; offer a year-long Workspace artist-in-residency program; organize networking events, lectures, and panel discussions; and mount special, large-scale projects.
JCAL Gallery presents John L. Moore, Paintings and Drawings
Exhibition: September 16, 2009 - January 16, 2010
Abstractionist, John L. Moore will exhibit select pieces from his body of work at Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning. Moore works with a deliberately limited palette of colors and simple shapes. His art is a very personal way of interpreting a variety of events and can convey a wide range of emotions. They are beautiful and compelling and yet he has said ‘one can read them any way one wants.’ The exhibit will explore recurring ideas, shapes and themes in his body of work.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
