Fine art museum with a collection of close to 5,000 objects dating from the Pre-Columbian era to contemporary American art. Two campus galleries and an outdoor sculpture garden, with 70 works throughout the 240-acre campus, comprise the Museum. Changing exhibitions feature permanent collection works, contemporary artists, and art historical themes. The Museum is open year-round.

Exhibits
"Acquired Riches: Highlights from the Collection" in celebration of the University's 75th year, will take place in the Museum's Emily Lowe Gallery providing a look at the museum's growth through the generosity of donors who have shaped the collection. This exhibit will feature a full-color catalog. Works by artists such as Karel Appel,Conrad Felixmuller, Paul Gauguin, George Grosz, James McDougal Hart, Danny Lyon, Joan Mitchell, George Rouault, and August Sander will be featured. "75 Years through 75 Stories" in the Museum's David Filderman Gallery will follow the history of Hofstra from 1935 to the present.




Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
