Historic Spanish Point, a 30-acre archaeological, historical and environmental museum on the shore of Little Sarasota Bay in Osprey, connects you to 5,000 years of Florida’s inspiring past by exploring prehistoric Indian mounds, pioneer era buildings and the colorful gardens of Mrs. Potter Palmer.
A Window to the Past: the only exhibition in the country where visitors step inside of a prehistoric shell mound and are surrounded on three sides by thousands of years of history. Multi-media exhibits and a reproduction dwelling increase your understanding of Florida’s earliest inhabitants.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
