A National Historic Landmark, Hill-Stead Museum’s 1901 Colonial Revival-style house was designed by pioneering architect Theodate Pope Riddle to showcase the Impressionist masterpieces amassed by her father, Alfred A. Pope. Set on 152 hilltop acres, the grounds feature stone walls, woodland trails and a c. 1920 Beatrix Farrand-designed Sunken Garden.

Exhibits

Permanent exhibition includes original furnishings, paintings by Monet, Degas, Manet, Whistler and Cassatt, as well as numerous works on paper and Japanese woodblock prints. A weekly Sunday Farmers Market featuring locally grown products will be taking place on the property Sunday, September 30, 11 am - 2 pm.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
