Donated to the City of Douglas by Norfolk Southern Railroad, the old Douglas depot now serves as Heritage Station Museum. The museum collection salutes the railroad industry and Georgia's rural heritage and features quality exhibits in genres such as Native American, Business & Industry, Education, Medical, Early 1900's Clothing, and the Civil War.
Heritage Station Museum welcomes hundreds of school field trips and groups tours each year. Visitors also enjoy purchasing local art and souvenirs from the One-Stop Whistle Shop located inside the museum.
During the month of September, Heritage Station Museum will feature a temporary exhibit highlighting Dr. Wayne Clough, a native of Douglas, Georgia and current Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
