Garvies Point Museum and Preserve Website »
Garvies Point Museum and Preserve specializes in Long Island Archaeology and regional geology. Reference collections of original archaeological artifacts and geological phenomena are maintained. Our preserve consists of 62 acres of glacial moraine covered by forests, thickets, and meadows with cleared trails for hiking.
Our exhibits offer extensive rock and mineral collections. Exhibits are dedicated to historic Native Americans of North America and Long Island. In our interactive Woodland village, children can fish from the dugout canoe and “plant” corn, beans and squash.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
