French and Indian War state historic site. Fort built in 1756 by colony as a barrack for North Carolina Provincial soldiers; refuge for settlers; supply depot for British military and allies; defined western edge of British Empire in colony of North Carolina. Site includes fort location, reconstructed winter shelter and living history area, museum, gift shop, and recreational areas.

Exhibits

Fort Dobbs exhibition includes information on archaeology, settlers, native peoples in colonial North Carolina and content on the French and Indian War. Living History exhibitions recreate the life of the garrison of soldiers stationed at Fort Dobbs.




Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis.
