The museum contains artifacts and portraits depicting the lives of indigenous people,trappers, miners, soldiers, and settlers. The museum houses an excellent collection of Indian baskets and artifacts including a two ton Rain Rock, a thimble skirt with bells and a rare ceremonial white deer skin.
The Fort Jones Museum has many excellent permanent exhibits depicting the pioneer doctor trade, gold mining, firearms, and military items along side the many local Indian artifacts.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
