The Money Museum, part of the American Numismatic Association, uses numismatic items to create exhibits highlighting culture, art, science and history through the prism of money. The museum collection contains over 200,000 objects related to the history of money from the 7th century B.C. to the modern day.
We will have 5 exhibits on display on September 24, including "The Money of the Civil War," "The Harry Bass, Jr. Display of American Gold Coins," "History of Money" and a display of the great rarities of American numismatics including the famed 1804 dollar and two of the five 1913 "V" nickels.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
