Dumbarton House is a Federal Period historic house museum, ca. 1800. The museum features a significant collection of decorative arts, paintings, and furniture, from the early Republic, and hosts a regular schedule of public events such as concerts, lectures, tastings, and family-oriented activities. Dumbarton House also serves as the headquarters for The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA), an organization that promotes our national heritage through historic preservation, patriotic service, and educational projects.
Museums and cultural venues participate in Museum Day voluntarily. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for individual museum content or participation.
