Dumbarton House is a Federal Period historic house museum ca. 1800. The museum features a significant collection of decorative arts, paintings, and furniture, from the early Republic, and hosts a regular schedule of public events such as concerts, lectures, tastings, and family-oriented activities. Dumbarton House also serves as the headquarters for The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America (NSCDA), an organization that promotes our national heritage through historic preservation, patriotic service, and educational projects.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
