  • 9:00am - 5:00pm

Duke Homestead State Historic Site contains the home and farm of Washington Duke, a local farmer who eventually became head of the American Tobacco Company and benefactor of Duke University. Duke Homestead's visitor center also houses a museum dedicated to North Carolina's tobacco industry.

Exhibits

45-minute walking tours of the historic site will be available at 15-minutes past each hour. An orientation film will show at 15-minutes before and after each hour, and the tobacco museum will be open throughout the day.

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
