17,000 WWII Paratroopers trained at Camp Toccoa prior to and after D-Day. The museum tells the story of the beginning of the trainees time spent in Toccoa, to become some of the most physically fit soldiers in the Army. Located in historic downtown Toccoa in the restored circa 1915 train depot.
One of the most popular exhibits is a horse stable from Aldbourne England that served as housing for US paratroopers. The stable 17 X 70 feet long serves as a reminder of some of the finer living conditions during the war. Located in the depot is are exhibits that tell the history of Stephens County for the last 100 years.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis.
