The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park & Cultural Center represents 14,000 years of rich Northwest Florida history. A multi-site complex, Heritage Park is home to the Fort Walton Temple Mound (AD 700 -1500), once a ceremonial center for the region’s prehistoric Native American people. The Indian Temple Mound Museum exhibits the finest collection of Native American ceramics in the Southeast, and shares the technological, artistic, and spiritual achievements of the prehistoric villagers that dwelled here. The Camp Walton Schoolhouse and Garnier Post Office Museums represent rural Northwest Florida life ways in the early twentieth century.
Museums and cultural venues participate in Museum Day voluntarily. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for individual museum content or participation.
