Exhibits

What About Whales?
Istar is back! What about Whales? is an original interactive exhibit in which visitors get to know humpback whales inside and out - literally! When Istar, our life-size inflatable whale, is lowered, visitors can climb inside and learn all about how she eats, travels and more. After a popular run in 2010, the exhibit returns in 2011 with the same beloved inflatable whale along with many brand new features, including a the Feed a Whale ball game, an underwater room for listening to whale songs, a whale-watching boat, an elevated deck for observing Istar, and a miniature golf game that takes you from Istar's home in the Gulf of Maine all the way to her breeding grounds in the Caribbean!

Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
