Explore the history, science and cultures of the Lower Cape Fear region at North Carolina's oldest history museum. Stand next to a giant ground sloth, watch the Civil War battle of Fort Fisher unfold, and crawl through a beaver lodge - all under one roof.
Special exhibits include Cape Fear Volunteers and Cape Fear Seashells. September 26th is also the capstone day of the annual North Carolina Shell Show. Shell collectors from up and down the East Coast will exhibit their collections throughout the Museum.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
