The mission of the Buddy Holly Center is to provide world-renowned interactive and dynamic exhibits and programs on Texas Music and contemporary visual arts. The Center collects, preserves and presents artifacts, materials, artworks, and exhibitions consistent with professional museum standards.
The Center collects, preserves and interprets artifacts relevant to Lubbock's most famous native son, Buddy Holly, as well as to other performing artists and musicians of West Texas. The Center also features gallery space dedicated to the presentation of changing contemporary visual arts programs.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
