America's official national museum, repository, and education center for the best in original, self-taught artistry. Located on a 1.1 acre campus in Baltimore, MD, AVAM has been hailed as a treasure house full of the most outstanding creations born of intuition and self-styled imagination.
American Visionary Art Museum takes the month of September to put special focus on pieces from its Permanent Collection and install its annual mega-theme exhibition. Visitors on Museum Day will have access to see the Automata of Cabaret Mechanical Theater, Andrew Logan's 8-foot Cosmic Space Egg, 15' kinetic sculpture Fifi the pink poodle, and more.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
