The American Philosophical Society (APS) Museum, located next door to Independence Hall in Philadelphia’s Historic District, organizes exhibitions that explore history, art, and science in new and thought-provoking ways.
"Of Elephants and Roses: Encounters with French Natural History, 1790–1830" explores the science and art of French natural history during an era when Paris was the center of life sciences in the Western world, and Philadelphia, the center of science in North America.
Participation in Museum Day is open to any tax-exempt or governmental museum or cultural venue on a voluntary basis. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for and does not endorse the content of the participating museums and cultural venues, and does not subsidize museums that participate.
