This Week's Editors' Picks

The 9th annual Smithsonian Photo Contest closed Dec. 1, 2011. Editor's Picks will resume with new images on April 2, 2012 after the start of the 10th annual Smithsonian Photo Contest on March 1, 2012.
In the meantime, we hope you enjoy our Editor's Picks from the last year.

To whom it may concern, You are the Smithsonian! Do you not have a person to maintain your websit? This really is ludicrous. you announce a photography contest and you haven't put a picture up for 2012. Hello, you ARE THE SMITHSONIAN!!!!!!!!!! GET IT TOGETHER!

2012 Editor's picks.... where are they? I know this has been asked already, but it is already September of 2012 and they were supposed to start in April.

Dear Sirs, I know that this may be a stupid question, & I have looked it up to try to find out for myself, but I've found no answer as of yet. So if I can attach a photo to this note, maybe you can tell me what this insect is. Well, I tried to attach my photo but was not able, but I can tell you that the insect in question is on the bottom of page twenty-two of your November Two Thousand Eleven Issue.

Who's kidding who? Picture #5 (Nimai Chandra Ghosh, Age 52 Kolkata, India • Photographed November 2011 “I was on a photo outing on the bank of the River Ganga,” Ghosh recalls. “I saw this man in a deep sleep and some boys playing in the river. I enjoyed this scene and started to capture those moments is obviously a fraud. Looking at the sleeping man's head and at the rock in the lower left portion of the frame, this is obviously two photos, one on top of the other. Let's have honesty, please.
