Heeere's Johnny!
Groucho Marx introduces Carson as the permanent host of NBC's "Tonight Show," October 1, 1962. Carson's career in television had been building. At 29 years old, he had his own show, "Earn Your Vacation," and was a substitute host on CBS's "Morning Show." A few years later, in 1957, he began hosting the game show "Who Do You Trust," and in 1958, he had filled in as host of the "Tonight Show." Carson remains the host until May 22, 1992, garnering many awards for his work, including such high honors as the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Kennedy Center Lifetime Achievement Award. He is succeeded by Jay Leno. Johnny Carson passes away on January 23, 2005.
