Pakistan's Prime Minister
Benazir Bhutto, a Harvard and Oxford graduate and daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Pakistan's leader from 1971 to 1977, is named Pakistan's prime minister on December 1, 1988, becoming the first female leader of a Muslim nation in modern history. She heads a coalition government, but two presidents of Pakistan will dismiss her government on charges of corruption, and she goes into self-imposed exile in London and Dubai. In October 2007, after eight years, Bhutto returns to Pakistan. She is assassinated in December 2007 while campaigning for upcoming parliamentary elections.
