Not Yellow Fever
Building on the work of Cuban Doctor Carlos Juan Finlay, Army pathologist Walter Reed and his team confirm in 1900 that yellow fever was transmitted by mosquitoes, and not by human contact. His work leads to the control of yellow fever by mosquito eradication projects. Reed dies in 1902 of complications from an appendicitis operation. In April, 1932, researchers announce the discovery of an effective vaccine for yellow fever.
