U. S. Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin land on the moon, where Armstrong, commander of the mission, uttering the now immortal words "That's one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind," becomes the first person to set foot on the lunar surface.
