Going, Going, Gone
George Herman Ruth, the baseball player better known as Babe Ruth or "the Bambino," hits his 714th home run against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Forbes Field. It turns out to be the last one of his career, since he announces his retirement a few days later. Although his final season is spent with the Boston Braves, most of his fame comes from his 15 seasons as a record-breaking slugger with the New York Yankees. In 1936, Ruth is elected a charter member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.
