So Much Suspense
The Brooklyn Bridge, spanning the East River between the New York City boroughs of Manhattan and Brooklyn, opens to traffic after 14 years of construction. At the time, the 1,595-foot-long suspension bridge is the largest in the world, designed in Gothic style by John Augustus Roebling, a German engineer who pioneered the use of steel cable wire in bridges. The bridge is still in use today and has become a beloved landmark.
