Saint and Soldier
British sympathizers capture the teenage French heroine known to history as Joan of Arc, the peasant girl who organized a relief effort to overcome the British siege of Orleans and led several battles that turned the tide of the Hundred Years War in France's favor. Joan, who claims to be guided by the voices of saints, is burned at the stake as a heretic in May 1431, when she is around 19 years old. She is canonized in 1920.
