Exactly five years after Charles Lindbergh completed the first-ever solo transatlantic flight, Amelia Mary Earhart becomes the first woman to accomplish the same feat. Having already been the first woman passenger on a transatlantic flight in 1928, she decides to repeat the crossing as a pilot, flying her Lockheed Vega from Newfoundland to Ireland in just under 15 hours. Earhart will disappear in the South Pacific in July 1937 while attempting to fly around the world, prompting a storm of rumors and conspiracy theories.
