Over the Rainbow
L. Frank Baum, author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and thirteen of its sequels, dies at Ozcot, his California home. First published in 1900, the Oz stories are the subject of many stage and screen adaptations in addition to the 1939 blockbuster, notably a 1902 New York theatrical extravaganza where Dorothy's animal companion of choice is not a dog, but a cow named Imogene.
