The Sky’s the Limit
Workers place a 30-foot steel beam in place on top of the Sears Tower in Chicago, making it the tallest building in the world. At 1,454 feet high and 110 stories, it is 104 feet higher than it's nearest competitor, the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York. At the "topping out" ceremony for the Sears Tower, workers sing a folk anthem composed for the occasion called "The Tallest Rock." The Sears Tower holds the record until 1998.
