Martin Luther King Jr. marches
Martin Luther King Jr. leads 25,000 on the Alabama Freedom March. In five days they cover the 54 miles from Selma, Alabama, to the steps of the state capitol in Montgomery. The protesters demand an end to racial discrimination, but Governor George Wallace does not meet with any of the marchers.
