Crusader for Many Causes
Three-time Democratic Party Presidential Nominee William Jennings Bryan is born. Known for his stentorian voice and populist sympathies, ultra-pious Bryan rails against liquor and denounces the teaching of evolution, most famously as a lawyer for the prosecution at the Scopes Trial. Five days after that trial ended, on July 26, 1925, Bryan dies of heart failure.
