Harold Ross, the magazine's creator, wants to create a magazine full of humor with a touch of sophistication. Over the next few years, The New Yorker becomes known not only for its witty, humorous side, but also for its serious journalism and fiction writing. It publishes short stories from notable writers such as E.B. White, J.D. Salinger and John Updike.
