Ancient Pyramids Around the World
No matter if the civilization was Mesopotamian, Egyptian, or Mayan, its legacy today is in part marked by towering pyramids

Say "the pyramids," and most people picture this famous trio towering dramatically above the desert sand not far outside modern Cairo. The northernmost of the three, built circa 2551 B.C. for Pharoah Khufu, is known simply as the Great Pyramid---and with more than 2 million stone blocks forming a geometric pyramid 450 feet high (originally 481 feet), it certainly is. Although it is no longer the world's largest manmade structure, as it was for over three millennia, it is the largest of all the ancient pyramids. The ancient Greeks deemed it one of the Seven Wonders of the World, and it is the only one of those seven that has survived to the present day.

I understand that there are pyramids in Indonesia, China, Russia, & Bosnia/Herzogovena, yet none of these are shown on your site. Are you planning to add these to your list?

"There are more things under Heaven and Earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies." HAMLET
A long time ago I read a book by Patrick Flanagan, Ph.D. University of Michigan (YAY!...I'm an alum, living in Ann Arbor) called "Pyramid Power". Wild stuff there. Especially the math about how there's NO way that the Egyptian models could have been built by slaves....not nearly enough power to deal with the weight + the altitude + the time estimated. The stones, weighing TONS, were presumably somehow placed on reed rafts and floated across the Nile. Yeah, and I'm a baboon....
Old news for many of you, I know, but I must rant anyway.

If one would pin point all the pyramids of the world on a map, what kind of line would be formed? It seems that most are in the same zone around the world. What classifies a pyramid as such. Could the mounds of the Midwest be in that class?

We don't have to be so harsh people :)
It is true that when you mention "pyramids" you think of the biggest and the most famous one! Try and google "pyramid" or "pyramids"
It's kind of confusing though, how come Khufu had built a structure that was the largest on earth for centuries and the only statue we have of him is few inches tall.

It frustrates me that in all the talk about pyramids, no one seems to deal with the basic concern: how were the blocks obtained, cut, transported and stacked. A tremendous mystery!

Across Indian subcontinent there are man-made pyramid-like structures of varying shape and size called 'Stupa'. They, it is understood, were built over Buddha's mortal remains. All of them were revered by Buddhists and considered holy.
The most important are in Sanchi (round shaped), Dhameka, near Benares(cylindrical shaped), Nandangarh in North Bihar(pyramid shaped)etc.
Besides that burial mounds shaped like small hillocks or possibly a crude pyramid are found in many places of the world. It would be interesting to have a complete list and their brief history.

They should restore the pyramid, try to dig all around the pyramid. The Great Pyramid of Cholula, also known as Tlachihualtepetl (Nahuatl for "artificial mountain"), is a huge complex located in Cholula, Puebla, Mexico. It is the world's largest monument and largest Pre-Columbian pyramid by volume.

I am with those who request further information with regards to the "other pyramids" of the world. I believe everyone may be missing the points worth noting: whether it is geometric or not, I believe when we review the "mound builders" the world over, or the "mountains in mythology" concept the world over, we are seeing "pyramid theory" in action. What is the basic concept for which a "pyramid" was even conceived? Or even "mound building", or "mountain lore in mythology"? We are mising the bigger picture, because are are lacking the concept itself. What is it? If the concept is understood, or even appreciated, we will see the a "pyramid" when unfolded takes the shape of a circle! Now, we have the basis for our "circle" structures which coexist and hold hands with "pyramids": they are directly related and cannot be divorced one from the other. What is the "theory" itself, the concept in other words, which caused anyone to devote time and effort into expressing it: as an original matter here. Why the world over? Is an American Indian "teepee" none other than this concept in play? Recover the "concept" (the theory for it) and the answers will start flowing in, and the world text take on a meaning which can now be understood, and even appeciated: whether they are right or wrong in our individual views, we will at least 'know' what we are seeing.

Nice post. The San Agustín Archaeological Park is located in Huila. Double SelfThis statue represents the guardians as well as the warrior which were engraved on the stone.El Partero who represents the male mid wife, El Obispo which means the bishop. La Fuente de Lavapatas is the most pretentious art work. For more details refer http://www.theearthtraveler.com/kbhw-ntrw-the-pyramid-of-djoser.html

What I find difficult to understand is the Idea that the Pyramids in Egypt was constructed to buried a dead person.
Given the sizes of those stones, how these tremendous stones some weight in at 17 tones, could be cut transported, and placed together is really a wonder to me.

The pyramids of China and in the Americas are impressive.... even Bosnia??? I think the pyramids in Egypt get MUCH more press than they deserve.

THE LOCATIONS
The Great Pyramid counts for two locations. The arc from the descending passage is to speed up the rotation. The arc from the ascending passage is to slow down the rotation.
Both of the other two will have a descending passage cut into the bed rock. One will be pointed to the east and one to the west. They will be for tilting the earth. One will tilt to the south and one to the north. There is a double barrel pyramid at Xochicalco, Mexico.
It points to the sun at noon. So in the morning it can speed up the earth in the direction of its spin. In the evening it can slow it down. This adds up to five locations. The sixth is for all of the Fountains of Youth. Their arcs will always fall back, never leaving the earth’s influence. So they can be anywhere. Preferably there will be one at every sewerage treatment plant.

There are about 15 pyramids in Caral, Peru. That's about 75km North of Lima and about 15 to 20km inland from the sea.
I have photos of them if you are interested.

You also left out some of the other temples in the Angkor Wat area. It's an interesting list, but when you say you're going to show temples from around the world, I would expect more breadth.

why was it that the "pyramid" was the figure of construction in somw many places in the world?

I enjoyed your brief tour of pyramids around the world. I'm sure there are wonderful pyramids in China, too. At the same time, this article doesn't say it's a complete guide to pyramids. Just a sampling.

I would like ro see a picture of Tengri Khan in the Kunlun mountains- A pyramid shaped sacred mountain which might be the basis for all the others. That is a unexplored area and I couldn't find a picture.

Since you mentioned the small Pyramid of Cestius built in Italy realtively recently,in 12 BC, you should have also mentioned the Mouseleum of Mausoulus in Bodrum (Halicarnassus).
Built in fourth Century BC, its bottom structure had massive Persian wall elements, its center had Ionian columns and it supported a small pyramid at its top. It was decoreted with Hellenistic/Ionian motives and sculpture. It was a true representative of the Persian/Hellenistic/ and the Egyptian architecture and culture that was dominant in the area at that time.(http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&source=hp&q=mausoleum+of+maussollos&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=pQsYS-zkH4uutgfV49TfAw&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBMQsAQwAA )
The building, which is one of the 7 Wonders of the Antiquity, was started by the Persian Caria Satrap Mausoulus as his maousoleum and finished by his wife Artemisia, 2 years after his death. Both Mausoulus' and Artemisia's mummified bodies were buried there.
Unfortunately, around 14th Centruy A.D., the crusaders who settled in Halicarnassus used most of its stones to build their castle in Bodrum. The marble sculptures and columns were put to fire to produce lime for the construction. Few pieces remain in Bodrum and the British Museum in London.

There are pyramids all over the world. One of the oddest places is an island isolated in the middle of the Pacific.
I also agree with the previous statement, China is worthy of further exploration.
