The 4th annual Future Is Here FestivalTM is, once again, tailored to a general audience, but will present triumphs in science, science fiction, technology and space exploration in a way that is dynamic, inspiring and entertaining. Chosen speakers are luminaries whose research and accomplishments mark advances within their respective fields and whose innovative approaches and skill as powerful storytellers provide a compelling presentation.
Culminating with a demonstration of a real-live hoverboard, the Smithsonian magazine's Future Is Here FestivalTM featured a series of visionary talks on what's on the horizon in an array of fields before an avid crowd of researchers, industry experts and tech and science enthusiasts.
Smithsonian magazine’s Future Is Here FestivalTM is an annual exploration of science, technology, culture and the arts, all gathered around the exciting and elastic theme of “the future.” The 2014 event took place in Washington, D.C. on May 16-18th. Take a look at what some of our speakers had to say.
Smithsonian launched The Future Is Here FestivalTM, in conjunction with Smithsonian magazine’s May issue, in 2013 with a day of talks on science, technology, engineering and math with a special live demonstration of a 3D printer. The title for the event is a reference to the William Gibson quote, “The future is already here, it’s just unevenly distributed.”
