Photo of the Day: December 28, 2012. An Editors' Pick from our 2012 Photo Contest.
Mike Beauchamp (Wichita, KS); Photographed August 01, 2012, Coronado Heights, Lindsborg, KS
That is one spectacular photo! Someone was very resourceful to be at that sport at that time. As a former resident of Lindsborg, Coranado Heights has always been significant to me. It is a beautiful vantage point in midsummer when the fields are covered with golden grain.

Magical....A really unique place to visit at anytime, but this photo is amazing.

So why are the concentric circles of the stars of variable intensity? Were those periods in which clouds covered the view or what is the reason for the large variations?
Why are the central tracks not complete?
The circles are due to the spin of the Earth about it's polar axis. Can the orbit of the Earth around the Sun be detected in such a photographic exposure?

What an amazing picture. It looks like an extraterrestrial invasion.
