Editors' Pick From Our Ongoing 10th Annual Photo Contest: September 28, 2012
Javier Arcenillas (Kirchheim unter Teck, Germany); Photographed August 2010, Nevada
To answer the other commenter, the point of the picture is that most of it is out of focus, so that this landscape looks miniature, like a train set. (Which is what I thought it was, at first.) However, upon close examination, it isn't true. By using increasing blur at the top and bottom,(Digitally done?) the technique is obvious. (And much done before.) Now, I'd love it if you could really do a low depth-of-field on a landscape. Someone could tell me if there is equipment that could do that! I don't think there is. Hey- I just thought of a new project, for myself...

I think this is the neatest photo! I think the way it isn't in focus around the outside of the photo enhances the subject itself, the Hoover Dam, I would prefer to see more of the dam in focus, but I like it. It almost looks like it's not the real dam but a model. What great artistic creativity!

This picture should not have been published. Most of it is out of focus. With such a wide field as a distance shot the whole picture should have been in focus. What were you thinking? A concept shot? Most people are not going to view this in that way even if it was meant to be a conceptual image.
