    Pure Sculptures
    Elephant ivory has long been a status symbol, representing purity. See 74 ivory pieces, including this mid-1800s figure carved by the Yoruba people of Nigeria, at African Art through August 17.

    Second Impression
    For her Hirshhorn exhibit (through July 6), Amy Sillman painted couples who posed for her. Later she painted them again from memory, developing more abstract versions like S.

    Face Time
    Two enormous portraits of individuals deep in meditation, exuding tranquillity, dominate the pavilion at the Sackler Gallery. Contemplate the exhibit, by Iranian-born artist Y. Z. Kami, through October 13.

    Dream Catcher
    The Heye Center in New York City presents a multimedia exhibit of 15 modern Native American artists between June 7 and September 21. "Remix" includes Luis Gutierrez's She Must Be Speaking to the Spirits.

    Triple Vision
    Barbara Bosworth creates panoramas, like National Champion Saguaro, by combining several negatives to make one print. On June 20 at American Art, 40 of her photos go on view.
