Dean Shostak, who performs more than 200 armonica concerts a year in the United States and abroad, is the only one to play with a foot pedal as Franklin did. Steeped in the instrument's history, he recalls reading tantalizing accounts of the armonica. "The stories talked about how the music affected audiences, how it captured the audience in a way you have to hear to really understand," he says.
Like his fellow aficionados, Shostak revels in the instrument's past and looks with excitement to the future: "Franklin had a spirit of musical adventure that I feel was lost for a time," he says. "Maybe the glass armonica will show us the way back to that spirit."

I am a musician (I play guitar proficiently and am learning the Mandolin rapidly), and I have been interested in expanding my playing abilities by attempting to acquire a newer copy of Franklin's armonica and a therimin kit. I have found the therimin kits online for very reasonable prices, but I am not a wealthy man and cannot approach the approximate starting prices of $7,700 for glass armonica replicas from Finkenbeiner Inc. Do you know of any other manufacturers, or perhaps some way of acquring a used armonica or a kit that I can put together myself? I would love to play the armonica, but I cannot come close to that $7,700 asking price, so any suggestions you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,

regarding the armonica -- is it possible to post a sound file or tune being played on the instrument?
